About Boise's DADU Builder

A family-rooted construction team with 40+ years of experience and 80+ DADUs built — now serving Boise and the Treasure Valley.

Why we build

Building Opportunity — One Lot at a Time

Tacoma DADU was founded on the idea that DADUs are more than just a construction project — they're an opportunity. An opportunity for homeowners to generate income, create space for the people they love, and add real long-term value to their property. And on a bigger scale, an opportunity for communities like Boise to grow in a way that works for everyone — adding quality housing without changing the character of the neighborhoods people love.

We started in Tacoma with that mission and we're bringing it to the Treasure Valley.

Who We Are

Four decades of construction experience, built on a foundation of family and craftsmanship.

Meet Matt Rody - Owner, Tacoma DADU

Matt Rody grew up in Tacoma, Washington learning the construction trade alongside his father. That early foundation — built on hard work, honest craftsmanship, and doing things the right way — shaped not just how Matt builds, but how he runs a business.

After decades of construction experience across the Pacific Northwest, Matt saw an opportunity that most builders were overlooking. Homeowners across the region were sitting on underutilized lots with real potential — for rental income, for family housing, for long-term equity — but the process of building an accessory dwelling unit was complicated, fragmented, and full of contractors who didn't specialize in the work. Matt set out to change that.

Boise DADU was built to be different. One experienced team. One contract. A process designed around making something complicated feel manageable. Matt brought his family-driven work ethic to every project and built a reputation in the Tacoma and Pierce County market on straight talk, real numbers, and showing up the way he said he would.

With 80+ DADUs completed, Matt has seen every scenario the permitting process, utility coordination, and construction phase can throw at a project. That experience is what he's now bringing to Boise and the Treasure Valley — along with the same hands-on, honest approach that has defined his DADU business from the beginning.

When you work with Boise DADU, you're working with Matt's team. And for Matt, every project is personal.

Boise DADU & ADU FAQs

Answers to the most common questions Boise homeowners ask about the process of adding a DADU unit to their property.

Can I build a DADU on my lot in Boise?

Most single-family lots in Boise zoned R-1B, R-1C, or R-2 allow DADUs. The minimum lot size, setback requirements, and allowable square footage vary by zone. We do a free lot assessment to give you a definitive answer before any money changes hands.

How much does a DADU cost in Boise?

Boise construction costs are broadly comparable to the Tacoma market — our completed projects range from the low $200s for a 448 sq ft McKinley model to $350,000+ for a fully finished 1,000 sq ft build. Ada County permit fees and Idaho Power utility connection costs affect the final number.

What are the setback rules for a DADU in Boise?

City of Boise requires a minimum 3-foot side setback and 6-foot rear setback for DADUs in most residential zones, though these can vary. ACHD right-of-way along alleys may also limit buildable area. We verify your specific parcel before design begins.

How long does it take to build a DADU in Boise?

From consultation to certificate of occupancy, most Boise projects run 10–14 months. Boise Development Services has improved permit timelines, but Idaho Power utility coordination can add 2–4 months depending on your location and service capacity.

Does Tacoma DADU hold an Idaho contractor license?

Yes. We are licensed and bonded in Idaho. Our Idaho contractor registration number and Washington State license number are listed on our About page and in the footer of this site.
